I’m up on the latest techniques

I just attended the Swift Beauty masterclass on Facial Injection Anatomy in New York City.

@drarthurswift pioneered a revolutionary approach to non-surgical facial enhancement.  He says, “Seeking beauty is not just about restoring youthfulness – it resides in pleasing facial proportions.”

I was excited to learn about Dr. Swift’s facial injection procedure that follows Leonardo Da Vinci’s mathematical principle of beauty and harmony through “divine” proportion. I was pleased that his masterclass also emphasized patient safety as well.

Looking forwarding to sharing all I learned with my patients!

Preparing for a cosmetic treatment—what you need to know

· Cosmetic Procedures · Comments Off on Preparing for a cosmetic treatment—what you need to know

If you are planning to get Botox, a filler, a chemical peel or a laser treatment, planning ahead can decrease problems during and after the treatment.

Stop exfoliating about one week before your treatment, especially if you’re getting a chemical peel or laser treatment.  Also temporarily eliminate any retinoid creams as part of your daily skin care.  Don’t add any new products right before your treatment to avoid problems with irritation.

Ask if you should avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E or fish oil (any omega-3).  These blood thinners can increase bruising.  Usually you would stop talking these one week before your appointment.

If you bruise easily and will be getting fillers, you might consider arnica montana tablets.  Found at health food stores, arnica is an herb that may help to reduce swelling and bruising.

Tanning, and even sunless tanning creams, interferes with some treatments like IPL or laser hair removal, so plan ahead when you schedule your treatment.

Alcohol is also a blood thinner so eliminate that from your diet immediately before your procedure.

If you have a propensity to get cold sores, take your prescription antiviral medication, such as Valtrex, the day before your treatment.  Reschedule your treatment if you have an active cold sore breakout—a treatment could spread the virus to other areas on your face.

Ask about any restrictions you may have after your treatment.  In some cases, you may be asked not to exercise, or you might be given other limitations.  After a chemical peel or laser treatment, for example, you’ll be asked not to exfoliate for a certain time period.  To decrease swelling and bruising you may be asked to ice the treatment area periodically.

Questions to Ask Before Cosmetic Procedures

The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery has provided this list of Questions to Ask before cosmetic procedures.  It’s a great resource to help you make decisions about your provider and the cosmetic treatment you may be considering.  Members of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) are board-certified in dermatology and are trained and experienced in both surgical and minimally invasive treatments to improve the health, function and beauty of your skin.

ASDS members have training and expertise in a variety of skin rejuvenation techniques – from chemical peels and laser treatments to body sculpting, soft tissue fillers and wrinkle-relaxing injections.  I am a member of the ASDS.
