The BBL HERO is the most powerful intense pulsed light device approved by the FDA.  As a result, most patients see improvement after just one treatment, as you can see below. Skin will be clearer and smoother; fine lines and wrinkles will be improved.  But ensuring a good result depends on how you care for your skin after your procedure.  Follow these guidelines:

  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sun protective clothing after treatment to avoid blistering, scarring, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation. Avoid direct sun exposure, including sun lamps and tanning beds for 2-3 weeks after treatment. If exposed to the sun, protect the treated areas with a full-spectrum sunblock of 30 SPF or higher. Use sunscreen regularly between treatments and after the treatment course is completed.

  • If discomfort occurs, or the treatment area is warm within the first 12 hours after treatment, apply a cold compress or ice pack to the treated areas for 10-15 minutes every hour for the next few hours.

  • If you experience a sunburn sensation, in addition to a cold compress, you may apply Aloe Vera. You may also take Tylenol or Advil.

  • Avoid applying cosmetics for 24 hours after treatment. Avoid retinoids and anti-aging creams for one week.

  • Minor crusting or peeling of the skin is a common side effect. In rare cases, blistering may occur. You may notice a “sandpaper” texture a few days after treatment. This is the treated tissue working its way out of your body as new, fresh skin is regenerated.  Aquaphor or Vaseline may be applied to the affected areas twice a day until healed.  Or you may also apply moisturizer with clean hands when the skin feels dry.

  • Keep the area clean. Wash gently and avoid aggressive scrubbing or use of exfoliants, scrub brushes, and loofa sponges for one week. Avoid anything that would irritate the skin:  shaving, too hot or too cold water, swimming pools and spas with chemicals and chlorine.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating until after your skin has healed.

  • You may notice darkening of pigmented spots, followed by fading and flaking off. The skin on your body may take longer to heal, compared to your face.

  • If you have a history of cold sores, you will need to take an antiviral as prescribed by Dr. Golomb.

  • If you experience broken skin or blistering, contact the office.
