Are you tired of your crow’s feet, eye bags, pores, and more?  Are you ready for a treatment that reveals younger, healthier-looking skin?  If you said yes, I have the treatment for you.  CoolPeel is a light CO2 laser treatment that requires significantly less downtime than a typical CO2 treatment and provides beautiful results.  If you’ve received this treatment or want it, understanding the aftercare involved is a must.

What You Should Expect Following Treatment

A light sunburn sensation can be expected for 12-24 hours following your procedure. Don’t panic! If this feeling persists longer, call your doctor. Additionally, your skin will feel rough, dry, and scaly for the first 3 to 4 days post-treatment. Follow the instructions below to keep your skin hydrated to avoid these symptoms persisting. Swelling may also occur; sleeping with an elevated pillow will help minimize this.

If you are prone to cold sores or herpes breakouts, you will begin taking prescription Valtrex the day before your treatment.  If you experience cold sores, blisters, pustules, or severe swelling following treatment, call or text the office at 954-251-0367.

Aftercare Tips to Follow

You should avoid touching and cleaning the treated area for the first 24 hours following treatment; I also recommend elevating your pillow and switching to a clean pillowcase.  Do not apply makeup or sunscreen for at least 48 hours after treatment, and avoid direct sunlight.  After the first two days, apply sunscreen (at least 30 SPF) daily to the treatment area, and you may also use mineral makeup.

For up to 3 days post-procedure, apply a thin layer of Aquaphor, CeraVe Healing Ointment, Alastin Skin Nectar, or Vaseline on the treated area as needed.  Do not let your skin dry out.  If your skin feels dry, a cool misting spray, such as Avene Thermal Spring Water, may be helpful for comfort and hydration.

Things & Activities to Avoid

As mentioned above, you must avoid direct sunlight for 48 hours post-treatment because you can not yet apply sunscreen.  Additionally, you should avoid the following for the first week: hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, retinol products, and ‘active’ ingredients, such as Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta-Hydroxy Acid (BHA), Retinol, Vitamin C, and Alcohol-based toners.  You should avoid strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours.  If you wear a face mask, wait 72 hours before wearing one.  Use only clean, disposable, breathable face masks.
