The new face of neurotoxins in the U.S. is Letybo (letibotulinumtoxinA-wlbg), which has FDA approval for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines in adults.
Letybo’s dosing is similar to Botox, making it another option for cosmetic treatment alongside the established players, Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau and Daxxify. Each one is formulated with botulinum toxin A, which reduces wrinkles by interrupting the signaling neurotransmitters between muscles and nerves.
Some toxins take effect more quickly and may last longer than competitors, but product choice is individualized – not “stronger” or “weaker.” Letybo is approved by the FDA for use every 4 months. The notable side effects with Letybo are similar to those seen with other botulinum toxin type A products. The most common is headache (2%), followed by injection site reactions such as swelling, pain, bruising, eyelid and brow ptosis and nodules (less than 1%)
Letybo, known as Botulax in Korea, has been a popular choice for more than 10 years. In fact, it is the number one neuromodulator in South Korea.
