We use Nucleoskin, which contains PDRN, in microneedling treatments to hydrate, plump, brighten and regenerate the skin on the face or body. So, what is PDRN?
Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) is relatively new in aesthetic medicine. It is gaining traction for its regenerative, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. Derived mainly from salmon sperm DNA, PDRN is a fragment of DNA known for stimulating tissue repair and cell regeneration.
Earlier this year, Vogue Magazine explored the topic of PDRN serums.
Most research studies on wound healing have shown that PDRN contributes to:
- angiogenesis (growth of blood vessels from existing vasculature)
- collagen synthesis (the formation of strong, flexible collagen fibers)
- decreased inflammation
Some clinical trials in humans have focused on scar prevention after thyroidectomy, faster reduction in wound surface area of pressure ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers, as well as improved pain in chronic plantar fasciitis. PDRN has also been shown to reduce melanin and pigmentation after three sessions of intradermal PDRN.
In animal models, PDRN accelerated healing after laser resurfacing and enhanced re-epithelialization, collagen deposition, and decreased oxidative markers in diabetes, burns, and flaps.
While PDRN is gaining traction in aesthetic medicine, to date, most studies have been small, and protocols have varied. PDRN is currently the active ingredient in Nucleoskin, a skin booster formulated by Promoitalia. Nucleoskin also contains a slightly crosslinked hyaluronic acid and glutathione. The role and benefits of these ingredients include stimulating collagen and elastin production, as well as promoting angiogenesis, reducing inflammation, and preventing hyperpigmentation. There is immediate hydration, brightening and evening of skin tone.
A microneedling treatment with Nucleoskin has minimal downtime with redness lasting just a few hours. I recommend four sessions spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart for optimal results.
An enhanced protocol using Nucleoskin is the Mermaid facial, which also has a periorbital booster for dark circles and under-eye rejuvenation.
